WH&S Policy Statement

The Kormilda College Work Health and Safety Committee, overseen by the Assistant Principal Operations, has staff representation from all areas of the College and meets twice per term. Minutes of the meetings will be available on the Intranet for all staff access.

The health and safety of students and staff is paramount, whether they be within the College campus or engaged in activities off-campus. Managers at all levels are to cooperate to ensure full implementation and compliance with the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act in all areas of, and activities undertaken by, the College.

Management staff within the College are responsible for maintaining avenues of communication for consulting and cooperating with College students and staff, and with unions in pursuing the common aim of ensuring a safe and healthy learning and work environment.

Staff with specific responsibilities pertaining to Work Health and Safety (WH&S) will be provided with appropriate training so that they can undertake their responsibilities in accordance with the Acts. Safe operator training will be provided for all equipment supplied by the College for employee use in the performance of their duties. All information, instruction and training is to be provided in appropriate languages.

The Senior Management Team and the middle management organisation of the College will provide the mechanism through which the health and safety aspects of the learning and work environments can be monitored and reviewed. Ultimately it is the responsibilty of all staff to know and understand the WH&S aspects of their position, follow correct procedures in their work and report all WH&S matters to their line manager or the WH&S committee members.
