Kormilda College proudly offers an internationally accredited programme for our Middle School students.
Through the framework of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) our students study subject content from the Australian national curriculum. Integral to the Middle Years Programme is the IB Learner Profile that encapsulates the aim to develop internationally-minded people who, recognising their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
Individual student Action and Service expectations.
All students in Kormilda College MYP are expected to individually participate in action and service activities throughout the school year. There are no minimum hours spent on Service and Action. Each year, students are required to engage in at least one Service and one Action activity.
Action Activities: Practising or enhancing a skill or talent that is not part of the school’s academic requirements or instructional day (ie. sports, class, private lessons, performances, conducting an experiment, writing, creating art, leadership activities, extracurricular activities such as debate or drama.).
Service Activities: Addressing a community need and performed for a group or individual without reward, personal benefit, or payment to the volunteer. Assisting non-profit organisations may be used for service hours. Family responsibilities and/or obligations and assisting for-profit businesses may NOT be used for community and service hours.
The Outdoor Education Program is a major feature of the curriculum within the Middle School. Every student participates in a camp providing an opportunity for students not only to develop new and practical skills but also to learn more about themselves, their strengths and to develop greater resiliency.
