A World of Opportunity

Whole School Assembly | A visit from MLA Lia Finocchiaro

It was great having Kormilda College alumna Ms Lia Finocchiaro MLA at our Whole School Assembly today. She talked about her time at Kormilda, and how important it is to make the right choices and get the right mindset, and build lifelong memories with your peers. She studied the IB Diploma Programme, then graduated with a double degree in Law and International Studies from the University of Adelaide. She was the youngest MLA in the history of the Legislative Assembly. Lia accepted the portfolio of Minister for Sport and Recreation, Racing, Statehood, Young Territorians and Senior Territorians. She became the youngest minister in the Territory’s history. Along with her professional career, Lia is also a mother.
She presented Gabrielle White (Year 12) with an award for All-Round Excellence. Similar awards will also go to two students who were away today: Siena Blackburn (Year 6) and Ochre Renwick (Year 9).

The Year 12 students who helped run the 2017 Kormilda College Sony Foundation Childrens’ Holiday Camp during the holidays, also received their certificates for taking part, and helping to give much-needed respite care to the campers’ families. Mr Craig Glass from Haileybury then talked to the students about the successes of the Royal Darwin Show, feedback from students, and what to expect in 2018.

A great start to Term 3.
