A World of Opportunity

Strong Year 12 Girls Trip to Brisbane

Being halfway through the year, Strong Girls took five Year 12 students to Brisbane on a Senior Rewards Camp. The girls, who come from Minyerri, Darwin, Pigeon Hole, and Numbulwar, were exposed to many new experiences while in Brisbane. Some were hit with the travel bug while others were keen to look into universities that would enable them to live and study in Queensland’s Capital city.

Brisbane welcomed the girls with blue skies, rainbow flowers and chilly nights; a nice change from the Darwin heat we are all so used to. The students experienced history being made, seeing the fastest try ever scored at the Broncos vs Eels NRL, and saw history in a different light through the story of Bennelong, performed by Bangarra Dance Theatre.

One of our students, said some beautiful words about her home Nitjpurru (Pigeon Hole) at a multi-lingual Poetry Slam and others wowed us with their knowledge of various plants and gardens during our visit to the Botanical Gardens in Mount Coot-Tha.

Two days out of the five-day trip were spent at Sea World and Movie World, where a few of the girls showed the Gold Coast how fearless Territorians are by riding every ride. The girls also spent time at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum and the Science Centre, and enjoyed a lovely night out for dinner at Hogs Breath.

The leadership, initiative, responsibility and pride displayed by every one of the girls was outstanding. They tried everything and missed nothing, and walked away with memories they will cherish for life. Kormilda College Year 12 Strong Girls are to be commended on their representation of their school, their communities, Strong Girls and themselves.

Well Done Girls!
