A World of Opportunity

September Sport Report

It has been a huge term for Kormilda College in Health and Physical Education. Across the whole school students have been engaged in a wide variety of activities both at school, out of school and in some cases at the interstate level. This high level of commitment from our students towards physical activity is very pleasing to see and a trait that we hope sets them on a strong pathway to finding their own personal life long physical activity.

Primary School
Primary School students have been engaging in after school sports clubs to better develop their sporting skills. The response to these clubs has been very pleasing and we are looking to continue with them into next term. With the success of these clubs in the Primary school they will now be opened up to students in Years 7-8. Next term the following clubs will be running:  Water polo club PS and Wet Season Netball Club

Multisport Club
The sporting clubs are a great way to further develop and improve skills taught in Physical Education as well as social skills taught within the health programs.

House sports in Primary School
This term students in Years 3-6 have participated in: House water polo and house Batt Tennis. Results are still being finalized for these events and will be announced in Week 1 for the new term. It has been very exciting to see the students participating in these house orientated activities which sets them up well for the regular house competitions that will be happening next term.

Interschool Sporting News
We have attended a number of different events this term run through both PARRS and our community engagement program. The Year 3-4s this term visited Good Shepherd to play both Thunder Hockey and European handball and the Year 2-3s attended the NT AFL Cracka Cup. We had representatives from both Primary and Middle School attend the PARRS athletics carnivals held earlier in the term – students that attended all of these events represented our school extremely well and the school is very proud of their achievements.

State and National Representation
Throughout the term we have had students from both the primary and middle school either try out for or represent the NT at a variety of sporting events. Our students have represented the NT in sports ranging from cross-country to athletics, to rugby and the list goes on. The school is very proud and commends all students that have embarked on these endeavors across the term.

Wet Season Netball
Next term we will be participating in the Wet Season Netball competition, which will be held at Sitzler Netball Courts Mararra. This is a mixed boys and girls competition open to students in Years 3-10. As part of the sporting clubs program we will be running an afterschool training session for all students that wish to attend on Monday afternoons, starting at 3:00pm and finishing at 4:30pm. Please note that this is a paid competition and students will need to pay in order to participate. Please keep an eye out for the sign up notes for this event.

NT Swimming
Next term NT Swimming will be running swimming lessons afterschool on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for students in primary school. These are free lessons which everyone is encouraged to participate in as part of our aquatics program which will run in Physical Education. Please keep an eye out for the sign up forms for this great swimming opportunity.
